Finding Balance and Creating a Spiritual Life: Week 1
Good morning! I’m off to a great start this morning, things are peaceful in my household, I woke up early and meditated for 10 minutes before I even had a cup of coffee. I had a difficult task to complete this morning and wanted to be ready and steady. The task (dealing with my teenage daughter) slipped out the door and is no where to be found so I am taking advantage of the peaceful aura the house is giving off and doing some reading and studying.
I have been implementing a morning routine over the past few weeks adding things when I’m ready and slowly coming out of my depressive funk. I thought maybe some of you might benefit from my experiences, successes and flops.
It’s a new week, it’s Monday and it’s a beautiful day out. Here are some basic things you can do to begin finding balance and peace in your life.
Get up early
Meditate for 5-10 minutes (a little longer for those who can, less for beginners and add a few minutes each day)
Think about or write down what you are grateful for today, gratitude is a wonderful way to feel good about yourself and the life you are creating.
Write down some things you to accomplish this week and things you would like to accomplish (there’s a big difference when it comes to time management!). Jot down the things you have to do today and what you would like to do today and be realistic, do not overwhelm yourself. Looking at a jam packed to do list can be more frustrating then beneficial so go easy on yourself. Making a realistic list for the week instead of the day helps to ease the anxiety of “too much to do, to little time.”
Remember throughout the day that what ever you give you receive, be kind and thoughtful not only to others but to yourself. Smile and laugh!
Try to take some time to listen to music. Music can help decrease depression up to 25%!
Take a short walk, even 5-10 minutes is beneficently! Pop on the headphones and head out the door. You can add a few minutes a day and build up to 20-30 minute brisk walks. Try to break it up, walk in the morning and again in the evening. If you life near stores and in a city, walk to where you have to go or ride a bike.
At the end of the day do a cleansing meditation. Get rid of all the negativity, anxiety and bad stuff, take that nasty stuff and replace it with wonderful things, your talents, qualities and fill yourself with cosmic energy, breath in positive air and exhale all the negative, polluted air.
Finally, end your day with a book. Reading is great for the mind, the heart and the soul. I’m terrible about this but try not to fall asleep with the tv on. Studies show that you use more energy sleeping then you do with the television on, that’s how mind numbing tv is. It puts a whole new spin on couch potato! Try to ween yourself off of tv if you have one in the bedroom, they say you should not watch tv where you sleep. I’m working on this one with you guys, I’m getting off the boob tube juice and moving it outta my room!
Each I will try to post on our progress on improving our spiritual lives, finding balance in each day and improving our self esteem and over all health.
Blessed Be! Have an amazing day! Remember if you feel grumpy put the brakes on and sit quietly, meditate, focus on your breathing and calm yourself, you can start over! )0(
